2語または2語以上からなる前置詞
前置詞には、1語だけで前置詞として働くものだけでなく、複数の語がまとまって1つの前置詞のように使われる表現もあります。
今回は「群前置詞」と、前置詞を2つ続けて用いる「二重前置詞」について整理します。
群前置詞
群前置詞とは、「単語＋前置詞」の形でセットになることで前置詞の役割を果たします。
（例）
because of（〜の理由で）
She couldn’t go out because of the rain.（雨のため外出できなかった）
instead of（〜の代わりに）
I drank tea instead of coffee.（コーヒーの代わりに紅茶を飲んだ）
in front of（〜の前に）
A bicycle is parked in front of the store.（店の前に自転車が止まっている）
as for（〜については） は話題を切り替えるときに便利で、
As for my brother, he lives in Toronto.（弟のことですが、トロントに住んでいます）
according to（〜によれば）
According to the report, sales increased this year.（報告によると売上が伸びた）
in addition to（〜に加えて）
We bought snacks in addition to drinks.（飲み物に加えてお菓子も買った）
理由を表す前置詞
理由を表す群前置詞には、because of の他に thanks to（〜のおかげで）、owing to（〜のために：ややかたい表現）、due to（〜が原因で） があります。
Thanks to her support, I finished the project.（彼女の支えのおかげで終えられた）
The delay was due to an accident.（遅れは事故が原因だった）
二重前置詞
一方、二重前置詞は前置詞を2つ続けて使い、位置や方向の細かいニュアンスを表します。
（例）
from behind（後ろから）
A child appeared from behind the door.（子どもがドアの後ろから現れた）
from among（〜の中から）
He picked one gift from among many choices.（多くの選択肢の中から1つ選んだ）
